The collection is motivated by structure vs deconstruction and elegance which combined create the chain.
Jessica’s designs are detailed and focus on the unique use and application of hardware to create surface decoration and a point of difference. Her bespoke designs remain functional and exclusive. AUTUMN/WINTER
BRIEF: Luxury
COLLECTION: Inspired by the structure of New York, it explores my emotional "chain"/link to the city. With the literal chain incorporated through the use of self made stainless steel hardware.
MODELS: Lorraine Esterhuizen & Jess Tierney
LUXURY
The Brief in which defined our signature collection was our perception of luxury.
Luxury is defined as a “state of great comfort or elegance, involving great expense”, however my perception of luxury, doesn’t just involve high end couture designers and rich fabrics, but rather luxurious events, in which limited people attend as only the sought after social elite get to attend in particular the MET GALA.
This collection features couture and Avant-garde looks aesthetically enhanced with my stainless steel jewellery line that would be worn to such events, designed to be worn by the high end social elite, intended to turn heads and drop jaws.
THE CONCEPT BEHIND THE COLLECTION
My signature was created through my experiences and travels to New York City, exploring the idea of being (literally) chained to the city. Ever since I travelled to New York in 2015 I feel my self constantly being drawn back to it for inspiration. I wanted to express my emotional connection to it through design, hence the use of the global co-ordinates. It is motivated by structure VS deconstruction and elegance, which combined create the “CHAIN”.
The literal chain is created through the use of applying stainless steel hardware to the designs. My collection features my own stainless steel designs, focusing on combining the ideal of masculinity through metal and femininity through deconstruction and the structure of my designs. To combine these elements throughout the collection the hardware will feature the engraved co-ordinates to reconnect the collection name throughout the entirety of the collection.
This collection is a pure representation of me, as a designer and where I aspire to be in the future after the completion of my course. The whole collection will be featured in a monochromatic colour scheme to add sex-appeal and an element of mystery, and timeless element.
SILHOUETTE
The Silhouettes of the collection are coherent with autumn/winter, however have a sensual aesthetic. There is a variety of different fabrics such as lycra, pleated lycra, wool, perforated PVC & wool blend suiting. The vast use of fabrics also encapsulates the extensive use of different elements within the designs such as half suit jackets, bras featuring strapping and hardware closures, pants featuring splits up the centre, textured deconstructed skirts and cropped sleeveless tops with oversized collars, combined with large hardware pieces, make the collection pop. There are however, areas of exposed skin which gives the collection an element, sex, class and timelessness.
